Spotlight Oral Care: PETA Certified, Vegan Toothpaste
Toothpaste is one of those items that we rarely think twice about the ingredients, but like any other product we consume, we should all be mindful about how these items are made.
Is toothpaste vegan?
To the surprise of many, most toothpastes are not vegan. A lot of common toothpaste brands are often not vegan because they use glycerin derived from animal sources, but at Spotlight Oral Care, we use glycerin only derived from plant sources. Animal by-products are not necessary to combat any oral health issues, so why should they be in your toothpaste?
Does cruelty-free mean vegan?
When choosing a product to buy, it’s helpful to know the difference between cruelty-free and vegan because cruelty-free does not always mean a product is vegan. Cruelty-free refers to how a product is not tested on animals, while vegan refers to how a product is free from animal ingredients.
Many common toothpaste brands are still testing on animals. Every year, 115 million animals are used for testing, including animals used for oral care testing.
You can count on Spotlight Oral Care’s toothpastes being vegan and cruelty-free because all of our toothpaste options and other products are free from any animal by-products and animal testing.
In fact, Spotlight Oral Care is a PETA certified brand.
What does PETA certified mean?
It means we are verified by the organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, as to have never conducted testing on animals, and we promise to never do so in the future. If animals don’t brush their teeth, why should we test our toothpaste on them? You can find the vegan friendly and cruelty-free certifications labeled on all of our packaging.
As a vegan friendly and cruelty-free brand, we value providing clean, clinically proven, and sustainable products to help you achieve a happy and healthy smile.
Our products are designed for sensitive teeth, including our whitening toothpaste and other whitening products, as they do not contain any harmful ingredients.
Every one of our products are…
- Gluten-free
- Paraben free
- Phthalate free
- DEA free

Why are Spotlight Oral Care's products considered clean but not natural?
While our products are clean and free from any harmful ingredients, we do use ingredients such as sodium fluoride and hydrogen peroxide to maximize effectiveness. We wanted to create products that not only align with our values, but also really work for our customers.
Different from natural toothpastes, our toothpastes are not fluoride free. Our toothpaste for total care is specifically formulated to fight common dental health problems including decay and erosion. The active ingredient in our toothpastes is sodium fluoride because fluoride toothpaste is clinically proven to help combat the most common dental health problems.
Then, in our whitening products, hydrogen peroxide is found because it is clinically proven to whiten teeth and reduce stains.
Everyone should feel good about what they put into their mouth, while also seeing effective results.
Are toothpaste tubes recyclable?
Most generic toothpaste tubes are not recyclable because they are made from a combination of different plastics, crude oil, and aluminum, making them difficult to recycle.
Did you know…
1.5 billion toothpaste tubes are discarded each year, ending up in landfills and the ocean
It takes 500 years for a plastic toothpaste tube to dissolve
10 million tons of plastic are dumped into the ocean each year
It is predicted that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean
We did not want our products to contribute to this pollution problem, knowing the negative effects plastic waste has on the environment, so we innovated a sustainable solution.
Our toothpaste tubes are ocean safe as they are made from 100% recyclable sugarcane plastic, are carbon neutral, and can decompose in just 90 days.
How to recycle Spotlight Oral Care's toothpaste tubes:
Step 1- Squeeze out and use as much toothpaste as possible
Step 2- Cut off the nozzle and cut a slit along the side of the tube
Step 3- Rinse out all of the remaining toothpaste with soap and water
Step 4- Recycle as usual with your other household plastics
Pair our toothpaste with our bamboo toothbrushes, which are 100% biodegradable to have a sustainable morning routine.
Making the switch to using sustainable, cruelty-free, and vegan personal care products, like ours, is a small change that can make a huge difference, not only for your individual health, but for the Earth.
More and more people are valuing that the beauty and skincare products they use are vegan. Why shouldn’t this be the same for oral care products? Especially since the inside of our mouths are 50 times more absorbent than our skin.
We are proud at Spotlight Oral Care to be providing quality and environmentally conscious oral care that is suitable for vegans.
